All is quiet, not a bird makes a chirp nor a mouse makes a rustle. In the distance a rich Japanese family rides slowly through the rain, cautiously as to not slip with the falling rain forming puddles everywhere. A young boy, his hair lighter than the rest, sits on his fathers lap holding a small umbrella. He calls to his father to stop the horse and jumps out of his fathers lap, and begins running into the mist. The father leaps off the horse in pursuit of his son as guards stand watch over the fathers horse and other belongs.

"My son, where are you going?" The father calls. He finds his son leaned over near a cliff and tries to inquires what he is doing, but before he can his eye catches sight of what the boy had apparently heard in the fog.

The baby fox lay injured on the ground, barely breathing in the cold rain. It gave out a soft whimper as the boy picked it up to shield it from the rain.

"I'm sorry I ran off, but it was calling to me father," The boy apologized. "Can I care for it? I don't want it to die."

"You can't keep a wild animal in the house, I simply will not allow it."

"Mother wouldn't have left it here." The boy spoke the truth. The father's eyes suddenly grew soft.

"Your right," He said with a smile. "Come on my son. This kits life is in your hands now."

The father, was was also general to the emperor owned a grand house outstretched on a hill near the vast forest. When they got inside servants took they're wet garments and the boy hurriedly whisked the baby fox to his room to care for it.

Several days passed of caring for the fox. The boy did everything he could to keep, what he now knew as a she fox, alive. Each day she showed promise of getting much better until finally she was able to walk and make a loud yipping noise.

"Your a very beautiful fox," the boy complimented as he stroked the foxes white fur. The fox wagged her tail at the sound of his happy voice talking to her. Her gold eyes stared happily into his.

During the next few weeks the young fox was given a name and would also leap and run as she pleased with the young boy. They'd spend endless hours playing in the garden together, racing each, playing games of tag, and laying out on the grass to watch the clouds go by.

"Come on Nuri," Inbur, the young boy would call out to his now pet fox.

A year now passed. Inbur and Nuri became good friends, neither leaving the others side, at least until Nuri got curious.

Once while Inbur was in his classes Nuri wandered out hoping to make mischief in the kitchen. Later reports of a young girl running throw the halls sent Inbur looking for a playmate when all along it was Nuri who had transformed herself into the girl.

Nuri continued to make mischief in the household and was once even caught by Inbur when he followed her down the hall and into the pantry. But by the time Inbur had gotten there Nuri has already changed back and was yipping at the air, as though the young girl had be there and crawled out the window.

The mischief came about so often that the general finally brought in a priest to survey his home in case there were spirits living in his house. After living with the general for a week and going through the entire house the priest came to the general with the solution to his problem.

"General Inuba, I have looked all through your house and have found, but one cause to this young girls appearance."

"And that would be," the general urged on.

"Your house is plagued by a kitsune. A mistress, or shall I say mistress in training, fox." The priest said in a serious tone. "That fox your son has in a menace and will take his very well being if you are not careful. They are tricky and have powers neither of us can ever learn to comprehend. If your son is to become a military man like yourself and live a fruitful life with a family of his own then I suggest you take that fox away immediately and dispose of it."

The general stood silently stunned by the words of the priest. He would have never thought that such a small creature could bring so much corruption into his house. He knew his son loved the little fox more than anything in the world, but he had to protect the only heir he had. Inbur would be the only one who could receive the ancient power his family had so long possessed now that his wife had died. The fox had to go.

When the generals men carried the fox away with them Inbur ran after them crying for Nuri, tears streaming down his face. His father caught his before he could advance further.

"But why father? Why are you taking me from her?" His words came through sobs and reddened eyes. His father had to look away from the child as he answered. The look on his childs face was more than he could bare.

"I'm sorry my son...it...had to be done," the general struggled for the right words to say. "She'll be happy in the wild anyway."

Nuri began crying in the cage they had placed her in and with each cry Inbur dug to get lose of his fathers hold. The military men mounted on they're horses and headed towards the forest. Inbur screamed for them to come back, but they were already faded in the distance along with Nuri's cries.

Inbur sunk down on the ground, tears flowing continuously. "I didn't...I didn't even get to say good bye." He managed to say. His sobs continued for the rest of that day, and all through the night, and for months to come.

When the riders had gotten to the forest they took the fox cage to a near by tree and let the little white fox run free. Nuri knew what direction Inbur was in and that was the direction she began heading. She would have succeeded in going back to her master if it had not been for the instructions the General had given the men. They were not allowed to let her leave the forest and were to come back to stand guard at the gate of the house so that the kitsune would not enter.

Nuri tried to get passed the men, only to have several swords swung at her and arrows shot at her. She finally gave up for the day and climbed up on a hill where she could view the house of her master.

The sun began setting on the grand house and still the little fox sat looking on to where she had once lived.

Many days after that she continued to get to her master, but each day presented an obstacle to overcome that sent her running back to the forest. For arrows, to fire, to dogs, to walls. Eventually, after many years of trying the little fox gave up and ran deep into the forest where she was never seen by the guards again.

Years passed and Inbur continued to think about Nuri. His military training was going exceptionally well despite his loss, but he still missed her. Eventually the day came when Inbur began to think less and less of her until a small trace of her remained in his memories.

Chapter Two

Chapter 2

Kitsune was sent, hurtling, into a black abyss of nothingness, her eyes picked of no signs of light as she scanned the dark realm.

Suddenly a searing flash of heat shot engulfed the realm.

It feels so...hot in here. No wait, it's me. I'm burning up. It feels like a hole is burning in my stomach!!

Long white fur began to grow from her back side. Wait! That's not just fur, thats a tail!!

More and more tails began suddenly growing from her back side, until nine white tails lay along her back.

"What's happening to me?!" Kitsune inquired, to it seemed, no one. But then who was doing this to her?

"Your mind is weak," The demon's raspy voice echoed through the room. "Your life, is mine."

Suddenly the entire realm was filled with fire and everything that might of been inside, including Kitsune, was burned to nothingness.

Kitsune awoke to find her forehead beaded with sweat. "Not that dream again." She had relived the nightmare so many times that it ceased to be anything but a fantasy to her. That night, and how she came to be the way she was.

Suddenly the demons figure appeared to Kitsune. A tall dark looking man dressed in a suit and tie. Obviously not his true demon form, but a human looking version of himself. He had a look of worry on his face, but Kitsune knew he didn't mean well by it though. He didn't care. He never cared. Only pretended to.

"You seem a bit flustered," The demons voice was taunting, yet calm. "Is there something I can do to ease your mind?" He finished this off with a sinister laugh, one that revealed he truly didn't care.

All Kitsune could do was sigh.

"You seem so depressed," The demon's voice still seemed as though he cared. Now it became sinister once again. "Could it be that I have control of you? Hahaha!"

Kitsune was trying her best to hold in her anger. As she tightened her fists the demon's laugh became louder. Kitsune wanted to take a punch at him so badly. She was tired of him having control of her, but what could she do? She had no power over him. He'd kill her in an instant with his demonic powers. She had seen it once. Once when a boy tried to fight back against the demons spirits the demon himself decided he'd have some fun. No blood, no cry. Nothing but six drilling daggers from out of no where. They caused no injury from what Kitsune could tell, but immediately after slicing into the poor boy his body began to change. His flesh peeled from his body and red smoke, like poison, began flowing out of the boys body as the skin peeled away, almost as though is flesh was burned right off. Other parts of his body began to deteriorate and eventually his entire body, skin and all was gone. Normally the demon was gone and would collect the soul later. Where he went was still a mystery to Kitsune, but he almost never was around when guys were being lured in and he had never showed his powers other than that one time. And if this was just one power the demon could use Kitsune could only imagine the other powers he still had hidden up his sleeve.

"It's not like you actually have to do what you say your going to do with these guys," the demon reminded her. "Your reputation stays intact because you never actually please the guy or do anything with him. You shouldn't complain. I'm allowing you to at least make that decision."

Kitsune's fist still stayed clenched. Regardless of if she did anything with the guys, which she didn't was not the principle of the matter. She wanted out, she wanted free.

"And even if you did decide to do stuff at least its with guys from different schools then the one you go too." At this point the demon began laughing. "I wonder if anyone misses them."

It's your fault I can't be happy, or live a normal life, or even...let anyone know I care. Kitsune thought to herself. Whatever, I might as well accept it. I'll never be normal. I'll never have that life I've always wanted. I'll always be doomed to this shadow over my head.

"It's too bad you cant just move. But then of course I'd find you and it would only take me a few months to recreate stones for my spirits to reside in so they could snatch up souls once again."

Kitsune knew how the system worked all too well. She had to lure the guy into the domain of the spirits because they could only reside in one general area and only with the help of these spirits could the demon take the souls so he could use them to restrengthen his body and feed his hunger. The demon could follow Kitsune to make sure she was doing her job, but his spirits couldn't so it was Kitsune's job to lure in the male souls so that the spirits could get to them.

"Heh, those powers you have are completely wasted on you. The only one that comes to good use is the ability to make you irresistible if need be, the rest are useless in your position."

He was right, she had no use for them at all. But that didn't mean she didn't practice with them. Her hope was to maybe one day get good enough with her powers and maybe win back her freedom.

"I know I usually come to you with a request to lure in a soul, but I'm feeling satisfied today." The demons face formed a large grin. "Enjoy your last days of interlude for I shall hunger again soon."

His form than vanished and Kitsune was left alone again.

Chapter One

The moon, bright and full, shines down on a quiet neighborhood. It's flight casting shadows which fall upon a lifeless grassy yard. All is silent. All except sobbing inside a house. A young girl cries.

She dries her tears, her calm blue eyes reddened and puffy from her weeping. Her red strands of hair covering her face as though to conceal her crying in shame.

She stops. Her eyes turn to the window next to the couch she is sitting on. She looks and waits. What is she waiting for?

Chapter One

After regaining her composure the girl's eyes became tough and almost cold-like.

"It's quiet," she said in the still silence. Almost immediately the silence was broken and a dark figure, who's face was not visible, appeared from within the darkness.

"You works not done yet, Kitsune." The dark figure's voice was malicious and raspy.

Kitsune eyes didn't move, nor did her body. Her voice was soft yet sad. "I should have known, it'll never end will it?"

"You're my servant and you obey my orders from now until eternity," The figure said with great force and command. "Don't ask questions, just bring me souls!" As the figure said this his body faded away into the darkness leaving Kitsune all alone once again.

"I'm trapped," Tears began to fall from her eyes faster than she could sweep them away. "There's no was out."

The silence was once again broken, but this time it was the sound of restless creatures seeking something outside Kitsune's window.

They come from the shadows. His creatures of the night, predators of the darkness. Set in stone, but prepared to take on any human life form they can get their claws on. Their noses keen. They pick up the scent of a soul. Their shapes take form and their after it!

"He's here!" Kitsune's heart began to race. "There's no mistake about it. They sense his soul."

----

Kitsune woke up after an hour long and much needed nap. She stretched herself and rolled her body in the sheets trying her best to get out of her comfy bed.

It had been an exceptionally good month. So far she hadn't been requested by her "master" to collect a soul which was normal considering a soul usually lasted him 2 to 3 months depending upon the person and they're spirit energy. Kitsune hated the job more than anything and would have given anything to stop what she was doing, but she was bound to her "masters" commands.

But why? She thought. Why must I suffer because he chose me. Just because I was weak and vulnerable at the time it doesn't mean...HE HAS NO RIGHT!!

Kitsune often talked to herself in her head. She had no one else to talk to about her problem. Sure she had friends, but she could never tell them what was troubling her for fear her master would kill them. He was such a heartless creature, sucking the life out of innocent young men so that he could stay alive. He may have seemed like a spoiled child, barely able to care for or defend himself, having Kitsune get souls for him, but she knew better. Besides the fact that he had soul seeking spirits guarding the whole of Kitsune's house he also had special powers that he could use whenever he chose to. The only problem was that when he did he would mostly certainly die or so Kitsune believed was the most probable outcome. But either way Kitsune wasn't about to find out whether this probability was true or not.

---

Kitsune's eyes wandered across the room to a guy sitting two rows from her. His hair shown bright red and his eyes forest green.

If only I didn't have this curse placed on me, Kitsune's eyes were filled with weary. Then we could be more than just friends. Then you would know how much I cared for you, Rayne.

"Are you ok, Kira?" Rayne was talking to Kitsune using her real name. Of course no one knew she had a second life. A second name. "Is something wrong?"

Kitsune brought herself back into reality after imagining her and Rayne together. "Y..y..yeah I'm fine." Her voice was startled and nervous at the same time. "I don't what's wrong with me today."

"Well for one were going to be late to class if we don't get moving," Rayne said in a cheerful yet anxious voice.

"Sorry," Was all she could say as she followed Rayne out the door.
